Setting Up A Website
Although it may look like my first website, it isn't. The purpose is to help convey a little more about me, provide some context, and most of all let me communicate with others about their work and interests.
That said, creating it has been one of the least pleasant aspects of advancing to a more serious stage of writing. All the details, the restrictions, the pitfalls, the technical limitations, the verifications, take so much attention. There is value in this, for sure, but not quite my cup of tea.
What has been enlightening is realizing how much effort other authors put into their work. It is certainly impressive to see a slick, well-designed interface, however; it has also increased my interest in work from those whose sites indicate they may have a spent a bit more time writing and editing. There's dedication everywhere!
(P.S. I stole this photo. I steal a lot of things. It is a habit and I'm aware of it, if not proud of it. But, if I stole a picture or a feature-length documentary of yours, just let me know and I'll take it down.
Especially this picture, which appears to be stock photography of what we collectively believe a modern writer looks like at her computer. There is a leather journal from Barnes & Noble, a set of untangled earbuds, an entire pot of tea precariously close to the laptop, a $100 bill sticking out of her wallet so she can... pay her maid? Remember to buy drugs? Why is that there?)
